The summer-long period of ascetic training is ending for a monk at Kyoto's Unrin'in Temple. He holds a ceremony to console the spirits of flowers. 鏑木岑男、他 A mysterious woman appears from the shadows of the flowers and offers a white moonflower. When the monk asks her name,she hints she is an incarnation of the moonflower (yūgao) that was pledged the love of Hikaru Genji. 梅若晋矢 The monk visits the dilapidated former residence of Lady Yūgao in the area of Gojō. After prayers of condolence,the monk dozes off. Inside the hinged half wall grille of the house is the shadow of a woman. 友枝昭世 It is the ghost of Lady Yūgao. 和島富太郎 She recalls her meeting with Hikaru Genji. Her sleeves flutter in a dance. 内田安信 Hikaru Genji used to look deeply at the hand-picked moonflower that was offered. 梅若六郎 Lady Yūgao says this place was familiar to Hikaru Genji,and she was drawn close with the reciting of a poem. 香川靖嗣 A dance composed with calm thoughts. 大坪十喜雄 Before daybreak,Lady Yūgao returns to the half wall grille.
