Mii-dera (Mii-dera Temple) : PhotoStory

At Kiyomizu Temple in Kyoto, a mother prays to meet with her missing son, Senmitsu, and has a dream.

A person in the neighborhood divines the meaning of the dream - she can meet with her son if she goes to Mii-dera Temple in Ōmi Province.

At Mii-dera Temple, Senmitsu has become a monk’s disciple. With the monk and others, he goes out to the garden to view the full harvest moon.

At the same time, his mother is rushing along the road to Mii-dera Temple.

His mother has lost her mind. She runs down the road and arrives at Mii-dera Temple.

In the evening, the bell is tolled to give the time.

Charmed by the sound of the bell, the mad woman wants to ring it herself.

Shrugging off the rules of the monks, she tolls the bell.

The pure sound of the bell clears the mind of the mad woman.

In the moonlight, she tells stories about the bell as it rings out.

Senmitsu hears the stories of the mad woman and realizes she is his mother. The two of them are joyfully reunited.
