Visiting the capital in early spring, a monk discovers magnificent plum blossoms at an old palace.

As he views the blossoms, a woman greets him and recounts the story of the tree.

The woman reveals to the monk that she is the spirit of a butterfly. She says that regrets being unable to form a close bond with the plum blossoms and then disappears into the night sky.

A person from the neighboring village appears and tells the monk the history of the plum tree in detail.

In the middle of the night, the spirit of the butterfly appears before the monk at the foot of the tree.

A dance of pleasure, flitting between the plum blossoms.

It is as if the sleeve of the kimono glows with the fragrance of the blossoms.

A feeling of spring breezes returns with the dancing sleeve.

Finally, showing the lightness of her dancing figure, she flies away into the early morning sky.
