It is the Great Nembutsu Festival at Seiryōji Temple in spring. A madwoman called Hyakuman appears when she hears a local man chanting the nembutsu invocation badly. 野村小三郎、梅若万三郎 After Hyakuman demonstrates the nembutsu, her madness finally starts to show. 生一泰知 Her thoughts have turned to the child she has become separated from. 内田芳子 Hyakuman recites the nembutsu, praying to see her child again. 津村禮次郎 A boy who has come to the festival realizes that Hyakuman is his mother and asks the person with him to confirm this. 観世喜之 ほか Hyakuman relates her story. Thinking about her child, she performs a number of dances. 川島妃咲子 “Amid the spring blossoms, I miss my child so much.” 梅若万三郎 “I can't believe it!
